This is a post I had on my Facebook page, from November of 2020, for the book before I started this website. I thought I should post it again here.
I owe Dr. Edward Marshilok thanks for mentioning an error that he found recently for prompting this post. His was the defective copy of The Way of Cane I posted recently. I am happy to report that Oxford University Press sent him a replacement copy.
Some corrections for The Way of Cane
Many thanks to my friend and fellow bassoonist, Lewis Kirk (https://www.lyricopera.org/.../lyric-opera.../lewis-kirk/), for his extremely thorough reading of my book, The Way of Cane. He found some errors that slipped by me.
Errata for The Way of Cane
p. 55 The third measurement for the tube diameter should read 25.5 not 2.55
p. 61 3rd paragraph should read “How many forming mandrels do you own?” not to you own?
p.112 FIGURE 14.9 (a) vibration is misspelled (viberation)
p.120 end of first paragraph: access should read assess.
p.143 5th paragraph “If you compare….finished reeds” (should read: figure 16.5, not figure 16.6)
p. 145 give URL is a note to production and should give the actual URL which is: www.oup.com/us/thewayofcane
p.151 Last sentence: the figure reference should be (See figure 16.16 not 16.14).
p. 152 The end of the first paragraph should read See figure 16.15— not figure 16.16
p. 217 Under Track 1: Berceuse, in the second paragraph I mention alternate fingerings for the tenor F and E above the staff for this solo. Those fingerings are on pages 166 and 167 (figures 16.31 and 16.32).
p. 297 The last paragraph: bassoonist should read bassoonists.
As a side note, Lew’s brother, Dave Kirk (tuba) and I have been good friends and colleagues in the Houston Symphony for many years.
See also the post for the corrected high D fingering (in this blog) which was also incorrect:
